In countries where copyright laws are enforced nearly every recording of a song title holds its own copyrights. The agencies are aggressive about this, from time to time. No one knows whether any record companies are currently or actively monitoring and prosecuting violators of their mechanical license. It is advised that their current disinterest or inactivity regarding protection of their rights should not be misunderstood as permission to infringe on their mechanical copyrights. The industry of music on hold advises all people providing music to their music on hold, to act in a lawful manner regarding all applicable copyrights and laws. The copyright office clearly summarizes United State’s Copyright law when it says, that names, titles, and short phrases or expressions are not subject to copyright protection. That is even if a name, title, or short phrase is novel or distinctive or if it lends itself to a play on words, it cannot be protected by copyright. The arrangements of music that are done are purposely simple but enticing and don’t over shadow any automated voice over messages. The sound previews are low quality examples like the music quality depends on when the music was uploaded. Also pre broadband files sound worse than the higher bit rate which is used now days.
